Caylus

The name of the village means “little castle” though today only the dungeon remains. The rest was damaged during the wars of religion. The village has a strongly medieval feel, with its church Saint-Jean-Baptiste dating from the 14th century. It features a 1954 sculpture of Christ by the renowned sculptor Ossip Zadkine. A few metres from the church, check out the fearsome wooden wolves carved in stone on la Maison des Loups.

Not far north of the village is the famous Chateau de St-Projet, built in the 13th century. It was here that in 1585, Queen Margot and her lover Lavignerac spent the night together before fleeing.
