Les Arques
Once upon a time, there was a magnificent little village, perched on a hill. But it gradually fell into decline and no tourists visited. Until, one day, the well-known Russian sculptor Ossip Zadkine came here with his wife. They were dismayed to find the village in such a sorry state, and set about doing something about it. They restored the Saint-Laurent Church, and Zadkine created and donated various sculptures to the village, and to the 12th century church itself.

Byway of thanking him, the village dedicated a posthumous museum to the artist, in what was his atelier. Born in Russia in 1890, Zadkine came to France in 1909 and married the painter Valentine Prax. Arques proved to be an inspiration for both of them.
