Montpezat-de-Quercy

Perched high on a hill, this is an old fortified town, and a free town in the 13th century. In the 14th century, Pierre des Près, vice chancellor in Rome, via Pope Benoit XII, took over the St-Martin church, which was built in the 14th century. Today, visitors admire its gothic style. It is well preserved despite damage by the English during the 100 years war. The magnificent Flanders tapestries were given to the church college by Jean des Près, Bishop of Montauban, in the 16th century. This treasure is remarkably colourful.

Outside, Montpezat-de-Quercy looks very Medieval with its 14th century gate, its picturesque houses, its town hall and its 17th century cloisters. Before leaving the town, take a look at the fantastic view from l’eslanade.
