Revel

Founded in the 14th century between Lauragais and the Black Mountain, Revel is a typical Toulouse Bastide (country house) with an impressive central hall. It is used by artisans who are mainly associated with furniture making using traditional methods.

Nearby is the “Little Sea of Toulouse” – the Saint Ferréol Lake. This was created by making an artificial dam which is over 100m thick at the base, and holds back over 7 billion cubic metres of water. What’s incredible is that this was built in the 17th century using manpower, rather than mechanisation, to supply the Midi Canal.

Nowadays, it’s mainly used by families on picnics, and windsurfers who make the most of its breezy and unspoilt waters. There is a natural park near the dam, perfect for an afternoon’s walk.
