This town, on the Larzau Plateau, is world-famous for its mouldy cheese. Its a connoisseurs town, where you can tour various strong-smelling cellars and enjoy a sample of the creamy concoction spread on a slice of good crusty bread. Its pretty strong, so be warned!
The story goes that it was a shepherds discovery he left a slice of bread and cheese to go mouldy , and when he tentatively bit into it later that month, it actually tasted pretty good! The cheese was famous from the middle ages onwards.
