Saint-Gaudens et Martres-Tolosane

En route for the Pyrenees, a popular place to stop off for an excellent meal is “Sant-Gau”. It’s an area of rich farmland, and rarely have you tasted such fresh meat. The upper part of the town has spectacular views of the Garonne Valley.

Worth a visit is the Saint-Peirre-et-Saint-Gaudens college, built in between the 11th and 12th century. Also there is a crockery factory which is over 300 years old, featuring floral decorations on plates.

Royalty have used this tableware in the past. You can look round the workshops and have a guided tour. While you are in the area, visit the Gallo-Roman villas at Martres and the beautiful centre of the village. The first Sunday after Pentecost, there is a homage to Saint-Vidian, with a procession through the streets in combat dress.
